Shingles Diagnosis

Shingles can be diagnosed[24] by a healthcare provider that specializes in skin conditions, such as a dermatologist. Typically, a dermatologist can diagnose shingles just by looking at your rash or blisters. In some cases, however, a small tissue sample (called a biopsy) may be taken to be examined under a microscope. When viewed under a microscope, your healthcare provider will be able to detect whether the virus that causes shingles is present by comparing your sample to known shingles or herpes zoster samples.
